Sewing Machine Basics: Make a Spooky Dog Toy

Come learn how to use a sewing machine with MAKE Roanoke! This class will teach how to use a sewing machine, sewing basics including straight and curved seams, and how to assemble simple items.

In this class, taught by Ettelie L, Suka F, and Michelle D, students will make a ghost shaped dog/cat toy (or a small ghost shaped pillow, if you prefer), complete with optional squeaker or catnip!

This class is suitable for complete beginners, but we will have optional, decorative steps for more experienced students. If you have your own sewing machine, we recommend bringing it so you can learn on your own machine. We will also have machines for people to use who don't have their own. Please purchase your ticket accordingly! If Bring Your Own Machine is sold out, you can purchase a Machine Provided Ticket, but not the other way around.

This class is suitable for beginners, and is recommended for ages 16+, anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. All materials, taxes, and fees are covered in the class price of $25. Please note that MAKE Roanoke is an active workshop:

• All participants must have a signed waiver on file. If the participant is a minor, the waiver must be signed by a parent or court-appointed legal guardian. Waivers can be filled out ahead of time at https://mkroa.org/waiver

• Children who are not participating in the event are not permitted in the space.

• Closed toed shoes are required in the space at all times by everyone, regardless of age or participation in an event. No sandals, crocs, or bare feet.

• You may be asked to remove or tuck in dangling jewelry, lanyards, etc for safety.

• Depending on the activity, other dress code rules may apply.

Refund Policy

• Tickets are fully refundable with at least 48 hour notice from the class start time.

• Tickets can be transferred to other people assuming they meet the criteria (i.e. a member ticket can only be transferred to another MAKE Roanoke member).

• If MAKE Roanoke has to cancel the class for any reason, refunds will be issued automatically.

• If MAKE Roanoke has to reschedule the class for any reason, refunds will be offered to anyone who wishes, regardless of the 48 hour notice.
