MEMBERSHIP

MAKE Roanoke is a Membership-Based Makerspace, meaning we rely on memberships to pay our bills and don’t keep frequent open hours to the public.

Membership Rates.

  • $50/mo | $550/yr – Individual Membership

  • $90/mo | $990/yr – Couple Membership

  • $35/mo | $385/yr – Student Membership (Active School ID must be provided)

  • $35/mo | $385/yr –Reduced Rate for Low-Income (must provide household income)

  • $25/mo – Youth-Access Add-On (per child), for Minor Children of Members. Restrictions are described in the handbook, in Section 1.3

  • Locker Rental: $5/mo – This reserves a Red Locker for your belongings. You must label the locker with your name and contact information, you may not store weapons or flammables in these lockers, and you must use a lock provided by MAKE Roanoke. The Board reserves the right to inspect lockers at any time.

Membership Perks.

24/7 access to all the tools you’re certified by MAKE Roanoke to use: - Tools are categorized into 3 levels: Green, Yellow, Red based on their involvement and risk. -- Green Tools are unlocked after General Orientation, which is required for all Members -- Yellow Tools are unlocked after shop-specific orientation (i.e. the Wood Shop’s Yellow Tools are unlocked after completing the Wood Shop’s Orientation) -- Red Tools are unlocked after tool-specific training (i.e. the Table Saw is unlocked after completing the Table Saw Training.) - Tool Trainings are designed to ensure you can operate the equipment without injuring yourself or the equipment. - Even if you know how to use a piece of equipment, you must pass our tool certification before using MAKE Roanoke equipment.

  • The ability to serve on the Board

  • Voting rights on Board positions, By-Laws amendments, and other non-regular business for MAKE Roanoke

  • The ability to reserve our classroom once a month

  • Discounts on classes

  • The right to a reasonable inspection of our corporate records

  • Storage of a reasonable amount of project supplies at MAKE Roanoke

  • The ability to sponsor a new member

All are welcome to:

You do not need to be a member to:

  • Teach a class through MAKE Roanoke

  • Attend most classes taught at MAKE Roanoke (Any Member Only Event is clearly labeled in the Event Title)

  • Attend our Community Meetings or Virtual Community Meetings

  • Volunteer with us in most capacities

  • Be a member's guest in the space

How to become a Member:

  • Complete the membership application

    • Youth-Access application is here 

  • Make an account at members.makeroanoke.org and get a key fob from a Board Member

  • Pay the monthly membership fee on Member Matters

    • Youth Access and Locker Rental Payments are still done through PayPal below

  • Abide by the Member Handbook and Code of Conduct

  • Complete the General Orientation

  • New members must also

    • Be sponsored by an existing Member or

    • Go through a probationary period of 60 days

    • Probationary Members may not:

      • Vote

      • Serve on the Board

      • Sponsor a new Member

      • Probationary Membership can be terminated by a simple majority vote of the Board

  • All membership applications must be approved by the Board or their designees.

Youth  Access Add-On.

Add Youth Access to your membership by subscribing through PayPal. This is for Minor Children of Members. Restrictions are described in the handbook, in Section 1.3

A youth-access application must also be filled out.
