About the event

In this hands-on class taught by Sam B., you'll learn the fundamentals of safely working on basic household electrical wiring — the stuff every homeowner wishes they knew. No experience necessary. Just a healthy respect for electricity and a willingness to learn.

What you'll learn:

  • How household electrical circuits actually work — enough to understand what you're doing and why

  • How to safely replace a standard outlet or light switch

  • How to replace a cord on a lamp or light fixture

  • When to turn off the breaker, how to verify the power is off, and why skipping that step is a very bad idea

You'll get hands-on practice with wiring so you can feel confident before you ever touch anything in your wall.

Got something that needs a new plug or cord? Bring it in and we'll try to get it sorted.

Let's set expectations: We are not wiring a subpanel, running new circuits, or doing anything that involves a ladder and a prayer. This is a class for people who want to stop paying $150 for a 15-minute service call to swap out a dead outlet. By the end, you'll know exactly what's in your wheelhouse — and just as importantly, what isn't.

Disclaimer: Electrical work on your home may require a permit from the local housing authority. Perform any work at your own risk.
