Fundamentals of Stick Welding (SMAW) introduces students to one of the most versatile and widely used welding processes in industry. This course covers the core concepts of Shielded Metal Arc Welding, including welding safety, personal protective equipment (PPE), welding terminology, and proper equipment setup. Students will learn how welding machines, electrode holders, work leads, and consumable electrodes function together to create a successful weld.
The class will also explore common electrode classifications and applications, including the characteristics of popular rods such as E6010, E6011, E6013, and E7018. Through guided instruction and hands-on practice, students will learn how to strike and maintain an arc, understand basic weld technique and joint types, and develop the foundational skills needed to begin producing quality welds. This course is intended for beginners with little or no prior welding experience and serves as an excellent starting point for anyone interested in fabrication, repair work, or pursuing additional welding training.
PPE Requirements:
Long sleeve fire resistant pants and shirts (cotton, denim acceptable, NO POLYESTER/SYNTHETICS)
