About the event
This introductory welding class provides an overview of the most common welding processes used in fabrication, manufacturing, construction, and repair industries. Students will learn the fundamental principles behind Shielded Metal Arc Welding (Stick), Gas Metal Arc Welding (MIG), and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (TIG), including how each process works, typical equipment setups, advantages, limitations, and common applications. The class will discuss when and why a welder might choose one process over another, as well as basic safety considerations and terminology used throughout the welding trade.
In addition to the major arc welding processes, the class will explore several specialized welding methods found in industry, including spot welding, thermite welding, friction welding, laser welding, and other advanced techniques. Through demonstrations, examples, and discussion, students will gain an appreciation for the wide variety of methods used to join metals and the engineering considerations behind each process. This 90-minute session is designed for beginners, hobbyists, and anyone interested in understanding the fundamentals of modern welding technology before pursuing hands-on training.
