Intro to Home Assistant and ESPHome

MAKE Roanoke is hosting our first class on Home Automation using Home Assistant!

In this class you'll learn the basics of the Home Assistant smart home platform:

• What it is

• What it's used for

• Basic Configurations

Additionally, students will get hands-on experience creating a custom smart home device with ESPHome by making a Home Assistant compatible temperature and humidity sensor.

Students are required to bring a laptop with the Google Chrome Browser installed, and a USB-A port. You can download Google Chrome here.

This class is open to the public, you do NOT need to be a MAKE Roanoke member to attend. It is suitable for beginners, and is recommended for ages 16 and up.

The cost to attend is $45, and the cost for MAKE Roanoke members is $35. MAKE Roanoke members can also bring one guest at the discounted member rate!

Please note that MAKE Roanoke is an active workshop:

• All participants must have a signed waiver on file. If the participant is a minor, the waiver must be signed by a parent or court-appointed legal guardian. Waivers can be filled out ahead of time at https://mkroa.org/waiver

• Children who are not participating in the event are not permitted in the space.

• Closed toed shoes are required in the space at all times by everyone, regardless of age or participation in an event. No sandals, crocs, or bare feet.

• You may be asked to remove or tuck in dangling jewelry, lanyards, etc for safety.

• Depending on the activity, other dress code rules may apply.
