Embroidery Embellishments: Flower Garland Class

Learn how to give your favorite clothing a fresh, personalized touch with hand embroidery! In this beginner-friendly class taught by Cassie L., you’ll learn three versatile embroidery stitches—straight stitch, backstitch, and French knots—and use them to create a charming floral garland on a piece of clothing you bring from home.

You’ll also learn how to use water-soluble stabilizer, an easy technique that lets you transfer almost any design onto fabric for embroidery. Bring a pair of jeans, a jacket, or another item you’d like to embellish. Not ready to stitch directly on your clothing? No problem—we’ll have fabric available so you can practice first.

You’ll leave with the skills and confidence to start adding your own embroidered details to clothing, accessories, and more!

Students should bring a piece of clothing you’d like to embellish—jeans, denim jackets, or other medium-weight woven fabrics work best. Avoid very stretchy, sheer, or delicate fabrics for your first project. If you’d rather practice before stitching on clothing, fabric will be provided. Bring reading glasses if you use them for close-up work!

This class is suitable for beginners, and is recommended for ages 10+, anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Please note that MAKE Roanoke is an active workshop:

• All participants must have a signed waiver on file. If the participant is a minor, the waiver must be signed by a parent or court-appointed legal guardian. Waivers can be filled out ahead of time at https://mkroa.org/waiver

• Children who are not participating in the event are not permitted in the space. 

• Closed toed shoes are required in the space at all times by everyone, regardless of age or participation in an event. No sandals, crocs, or bare feet.

• You may be asked to remove or tuck in dangling jewelry, lanyards, etc for safety.

• Depending on the activity, other dress code rules may apply.

Refund Policy

• Tickets are fully refundable with at least 48 hour notice from the class start time.

• Tickets can be transferred to other people assuming they meet the criteria (i.e. a member ticket can only be transferred to another MAKE Roanoke member).

• If MAKE Roanoke has to cancel the class for any reason, refunds will be issued automatically.

• If MAKE Roanoke has to reschedule the class for any reason, refunds will be offered to anyone who wishes, regardless of the 48 hour notice.
