About the event

Join us at MAKE Roanoke for another FREE Maker Mini! Alex M. will be offering an introduction to using the Discord platform, with emphasis on the MAKE Roanoke discord server.

Focus areas include:

  • Basic discord functionality: servers, channels, messaging, adding friends

  • Tailoring notification settings to suit individual preferences

  • Walkthrough of what's available in the MAKE Roanoke server:

    • Shop channels

    • Ways to contact Captains and Board members

    • How project sharing threads work

Discord is by far the best way to stay up to date on what is happening at MAKE Roanoke and to connect to our community of nearly 500 makers! Our Discord server is open to the public, you do NOT need to be a MAKE Roanoke Member to join.

This Maker Mini is FREE and Open to the Public, you do not need to be a MAKE Roanoke Member to attend. It's recommended for age 13+ and suitable for total beginners. It is recommend that students bring a laptop or phone to follow along if they'd like, and we recommend joining the server ahead of time. You can join the discord server here.

Please note that MAKE Roanoke is an active workshop:

  • All participants must have a signed waiver on file. If the participant is a minor, the waiver must be signed by a parent or court-appointed legal guardian. Waivers can be filled out ahead of time at https://mkroa.org/waiver

  • Children who are not participating in the event are not permitted in the space.

  • Closed toed shoes are required in the space at all times by everyone, regardless of age or participation in an event. No sandals, crocs, or bare feet.

  • You may be asked to remove or tuck in dangling jewelry, lanyards, etc for safety.
