About the event
MAKE Roanoke is thrilled to be participating in the Daisy Art Parade again this year! For those who don't know, the Daisy Art Parade is a parade in Roanoke of giant puppets that people in our community make! All puppets must be man-powered (IE no cars towing them!) and using recycled material is highly encouraged. This year the parade is on May 9 and is held in conjunction with a Carnival! You can learn more about the parade here.
We have decided to create an engineering challenge Carnival Game for this event! This meeting will focus on figuring out what kind of engineering challenge we can create using a bunch of random objects (think tallest tower, longest bridge, strongest boat, etc)
End goals for the WHOLE project:
Update and repair the octopus for reuse. This can include painting, repair of tentacles, and new objects
Create some sort of physics/engineering challenge with prizes awarded! I would like to have a set of prizes from each shop, if possible, with separate prizes for Adult and Child categories (also need to figure out age brackets)
Prize ideas include yarn/marble fidgets, 3D printed toys, resin printed bit holders, cutting boards, etc.
We would like to have a MAKE Roanoke (and any volunteers, no need to be a member) day where we all compete to see what kind of “goal/prize criteria” we need to have for the event day.
You do not need to be a MAKE Roanoke Member to be a part of our Daisy Art Parade Krewe! All crafts and experience levels welcome!
Please note that MAKE Roanoke is an active workshop:
All participants must have a signed waiver on file. If the participant is a minor, the waiver must be signed by a parent or court-appointed legal guardian. Waivers can be filled out ahead of time at https://mkroa.org/waiver
Children who are not participating in the event are not permitted in the space.
Closed toed shoes are required in the space at all times by everyone, regardless of age or participation in an event. No sandals, crocs, or bare feet.
You may be asked to remove or tuck in dangling jewelry, lanyards, etc for safety.
Depending on the activity, other dress code rules may apply.
