All Member Only events are marked "Members Only" at the beginning of the title. Any other event is open to the public, so please come and join us!
So long as your child is within the age recommendations for a class, they are welcome to join us! Reach out to us via email or on discord and let us know which class, and we can reduce the total number of students allowed to save a seat for your child.
Nope!
Meetup is free for users, but they do like to push Meetup+ (their paid plan) pretty heavily and hide the free option.
On the page where it asks you to start your free trial, up at the top is a link "Continue with free plan" just click that and you'll be all set!
We take payment at the door for most of our classes. We accept cash, PayPal, or card (including tap-to-pay and Apple Pay!).
Occasionally we'll have a class with a very high materials cost, and for those we take payment up front and register for them off Meetup.
We offer 2 main kinds of classes: Project-based classes that are typically completed in 1-2 sessions, and lecture/demonstration-based maker minis.
Classes can be anything from making a dog toy to a cutting board to a lightsaber. We tend to stick to "maker" projects (sewing, wood working, electronics, etc) over "visual art" projects (painting, sketching, etc) because that's where our strengths are. (PS if you want more "art" type classes, please check out Art Project Roanoke, they're another super cool non-profit!). Full classes at MAKE Roanoke are paid, and we try our best to keep the costs low!
Maker Minis are shorter, free, classes that cover a subject that is too big for a quick post and too small for a full class. Things like how to buy wood from a lumber yard, how does a resistor work, etc.
Email the classes committee at classes-committee@makeroanoke.org with what you'd like to teach and your availability. We choose our Classes and Maker Minis once a quarter on the first Monday of these months: March, June, September, December in our Quarterly Class Selection Meeting.
Age exceptions for classes are on a class-by-class basis and are left up to the individual instructor. Email our classes committee at classes-committee@makeroanoke.org to inquire about an exception.
