Yes! Members can have up to 2 guests at the space at any given time. Guests need to have a waiver on file and be signed in and out on the Guest Sign-In sheet at the entrance.
Guests can only use green-level tools, but they can help with things like catching the outfeed on the planer, so long as the Member is the one operating the machinery
That’s totally fine! They just need to be stored out of the way when not in use, and labeled accordingly. Remember: anything not labeled is presumed to be communal!
First of all, say something to them! We don’t have a staff to monitor the space, and we expect our members to look out for each other.
Secondly, fill out an incident report. The Board will review the camera footage and determine if further action needs to be taken.
If it’s an emergency, call 911. Non emergency phone numbers for police, fire, and natural gas are posted at the main entrance and in each shop. There’s also a first aid kit and fire extinguisher in every shop.
Take care of any injuries and fires first, unplug any machines if necessary. Fill out an incident report and inform the relevant shop captain.
Tools are categorized into 3 levels: Green, Yellow, Red based on their involvement and risk.
Green Tools are unlocked after General Orientation, which is required for all Members
Yellow Tools are unlocked after shop-specific orientation (i.e. the Wood Shop’s Yellow Tools are unlocked after completing the Wood Shop’s Orientation)
Red Tools are unlocked after tool-specific training (i.e. the Table Saw is unlocked after completing the Table Saw Training.)
Tool Trainings are designed to ensure you can operate the equipment without injuring yourself or the equipment.
Even if you know how to use a piece of equipment, you must pass our tool certification before using MAKE Roanoke equipment.
While we are a 501c3 Non-Profit, membership dues do not count as a tax-deductible contribution.
Monetary Donations and Tool Donations are tax deductible, though!
Contact the Board on Discord or by email (board@makeroanoke.org) and we'll sort you out!
Please let us know immediately about a lost fob so we can disable the access.
